Welcome to our Early Years Foundation Stage Page.

Reception

Welcome to our first term in Reception. We have made a fantastic start to the year, all of the children have settled in and are extremely keen to learn. Could you ensure that your child has a coat, reading folder, spare uniform and water bottle every day. Please label all your child’s belongings. We do PE every Friday so please make sure kit is in school. We also need a pair of wellies for outdoor play.

Thursday 17th October – Last day in school

Monday 28th October – Start of Autumn 2 half term

Wednesday 6th November – ‘Light’ Disco Reception & KS1 6pm-6.45/KS2 7pm – 7.45pm

Friday 15th November – Children In Need (£1 donation)

w/c 18th November – please send in an orange for Christingle with each child

Wednesday 20th November – Parents’ evening 4 – 8pm

Friday 29th November – Christingle Service (please send your child with an orange w/c 18th November)

Monday 2nd December – Infant dress rehearsal

Tuesday 3rd December – Infant Christmas Concert (2pm)

Curriculum News

Literacy

Reading

We are starting home reading, week commencing: 23.09.19, children will be sent home with a reading book and a phonics book. Each child will take part in a group guided session once a week and will have a 1:1 read as well. Books may start with just pictures, but this is to develop rich language and discussion and we soon move onto words and captions. Please make a quick note of any home reading in your child’s yellow reading diary. We will also be starting library each Wednesday afternoon so your child will have a chance to read a selection of our fantastic school library.

Writing

Writing Activities will include: Pencil grip/Name writing/number writing/letter formation/cvc words/simple sentences/identifying hand preference.

Phonics

We will start with sound recognition, identifying what different objects begin with. Then writing these sounds. Reading words with these sounds. Then writing words using these sounds, the steps we go through for progression in learning.

Maths

Each child will take part in weekly guided Maths activities as well as having access to many mathematical activities in our classroom environment. We will be focusing on:

Number Recognition, Writing numbers, Ordering numbers, Counting 1:1 correspondents, Shape recognition, Rote counting, Mathematical language/positional language.

Topic

Our topic until Half Term is: ‘Do you want to be friends?’ We focus on friendships, families, Being Kind, Being helpful, Co – operation, Similarities and Differences and People Who Help Us.

After half term we move onto: ‘Why do squirrels hide their nuts?’ We will be investigating seasonal changes in the natural world, Hibernation/ nocturnal animals, Autumn foods, Woodland animals,Seasonal celebrations and festivals, including Bonfire Night/Guy Fawkes and Christmas.

P.E.

PE will take place on Friday afternoons so please ensure full kit is in school including sensible footwear.

R.E.

R.E. will be taught every Wednesday morning. Up until Christmas, Reception will be learning about: ‘I am Special’ looking at: We are unique children of God, God as a loving father, Feelings and Emotions, My gifts and talents. ‘Harvest’ Giving thanks for food and God’s many gifts to us, Story of creation and exploring the wonders of our amazing world ‘Christmas’. Explore the nativity story in a variety of ways and ensure pupils know that Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’ birth.
